- Today I went out and purchased a Cardinal 28.8 (MVP288I). I was the
- previous purchaser of a Cardinal 14.4 softmodem which required
- softwared to be downloaded into it's chip on use. I currently am
- using Windows for Workgroups and will be converting to Windows 95 in
- the near future. Carefully I tried to remove all traces of the 14.4
- software on my system and then I removed the old 14.4 and installed
- the 28.8. Everything seems fine, I can use my modem completely under
- windows without any apparent problems. No problems that is *except*
- for this message when I try to boot Windows:
-
- Ring 0 Systems: Virtual 16550 Driver Board was not found in your
- computer! Virtual 16550 & communication buffering in the DOS box will
- not work. It may cause lost bytes during the data transfer or any
- other problems with communication software running under v86 DOS.
-
- Could someone shine a light on what this means? I thought that the
- 28.8 included a 16550 UART chip on board (at least the manual says it
- does). I really would like to tie this down fast because if the modem
- is no good, I want to take it back asap.. Thanks for any help you can
- give.
